Engineer your career: Apply to VA’s Technical Career Field program

An engineer assesses a workspace.

If you’re looking to launch a meaningful career with hands-on experience, mentorship, and long-term growth potential, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has exciting new opportunities available for engineers through the Technical Career Field (TCF) trainee program. Designed to prepare the next generation of professionals in critical support roles, these vacancies offer a direct pathway into a rewarding career serving Veterans.

What is the TCF Program?

The TCF program is one of VA’s largest workforce development initiatives, created to build talent in high-demand technical fields, like engineering, that support Veteran care behind the scenes.

Through this structured program, trainees receive 1–2 years of paid, full-time training, complete with mentorship, hands-on experience, and a personalized development plan. This isn’t just training—it’s the foundation for a long-term career at VA.

New vacancies, new possibilities

Now through April 13, 2026, VA is hiring engineers across 14 locations to make informed recommendations and foster innovative solutions under supervision in the support of Veteran care. Mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering graduates are preferred. Degrees must be conferred by Sept. 4, 2026.

Support a greater mission

While your role as an engineer with the TCF program might operate behind the scenes, your impact will be front and center. You’ll help ensure VA clinicians have the tools, resources, and environments they need to deliver exceptional care to our nation’s heroes.
