The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is looking for the next generation of clinical professionals to serve Veterans and work with cutting-edge technology. VA’s interdisciplinary teams and nationwide workforce offer young clinicians the opportunity to learn from their peers in various specialties as well as the mobility they are looking for.
Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of a VA career for students and young professionals.
Mission-driven service ![]()
Enter with purpose and exit with pride. When caring for Veterans is your mission, every day is an opportunity to make a difference.
Serving America’s Veterans is a deeply rewarding mission that sets VA apart from all other health care systems. At VA, we live by 5 core values that remind us of our mission to serve those who served and help foster a supportive, innovative work culture. These ICARE values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence keep us inspired and focused on doing our best for Veterans and their families every day.
“If you want to make an impact on your community, on the world around you, VA is the place to be. Not only is it the place to be, it’s a place that needs you,” said Sharieda Patterson, Lead Chaplain at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania VA Medical Center (VAMC).
Cutting-edge technology
VA is an industry leader in telehealth, electronic health records, and advanced clinical research. From exploring virtual reality applications to supporting rural Veterans through patient-aligned care teams and telehealth innovations programs, innovation is at the heart of VA care.
VA Immersive is defining a new reality in Veteran health care by leading the nation in the clinical implementation of immersive technology and uncovering new ways to embrace whole health. VA’s Patient-Aligned Care Team (PACT) model brings together providers across specialties, transforming the way Veterans receive care and improving health care access for Veterans in rural areas.
“One of the things that the VA purchased for us was a rehabilitative ultrasound, which really is cutting-edge and it’s something that most clinics do not have access to,” said Naomi Chalew, Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist at the New Orleans VAMC.
Work/life balance
Work should fit your life – not the other way around. When you join VA, you will experience predictable schedules, generous leave, and a strong support system that values your home life as much as it does your time serving Veterans.
VA’s dedicated employees enjoy separate paid and sick leave, loan repayment programs, flexible scheduling, comprehensive and affordable health care, federal retirement options, and the ability to work anywhere in the U.S. with one active license. Learn more about benefits for VA employees here.
“The VA benefit that I enjoy most as a new father was the paid paternal leave. I was able to take a full three months with my newborn daughter and that’s time that I view as invaluable and I wouldn’t trade for anything,” stated Costandino Surdis, Assistant Chief of Psychiatry at the New Orleans VAMC.
