More ways to work at VA
There’s more to VA than our health care system. Explore other ways you can serve Veterans in a job that comes with the same rewards and excellent benefits you’ve come to expect from VA.
National Cemetery Administration
Through the National Cemetery Administration (NCA), VA operates more than 140 national cemeteries and 33 soldiers’ lots and monument sites across the United States. Some ways to work with NCA include cemetery representative, cemetery administrator, and management-level positions.
U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps
The USPHS Commissioned Corps is made up of medical, health, and engineering professionals who fight disease, conduct research, and care for patients in 800+ underserved communities.
Through a partnership with VA, USPHS physicians, psychologists, nurses, and physician assistants can work at select VA facilities across the nation for 2-4 years at a time. These officers are then primed to transition to a VA career after completing their service.

Veterans Benefits Administration
The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) provides benefits and services to Veterans and their families in a manner that honors their service. From disability and other types of compensation to home loans and education, Veterans can connect with VBA to take advantage of the benefits they’ve earned.
VBA offers many opportunities to Veterans looking for new ways to serve, or people who want to give back to those who defended our freedom. These rewarding careers offer competitive salaries, retirement plans, and paid leave.
Veterans Canteen Service
Start your career at the Veterans Canteen Service (VCS), where you’ll contribute to the comfort and well-being of Veterans enrolled in VA health care. Every day, you’ll have the honor of serving the best customers — America’s Veterans.
VCS is hiring dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic staff to work in retail stores, cafés, and coffee shops in VA facilities across the country. Enjoy a starting salary of $15.75 per hour or more and extensive benefits.
For me, and for a lot of the people that work for the canteen service, it’s a way of giving back. Giving back to our nation’s heroes, giving back to the medical center staff, just helping and being a servant leader.
