April 7-13 marks the 30th annual National Public Health Week (NPHW), a time to recognize the vital work accomplished by public health professionals and organizations across the country. At the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), National Public Health Week is an opportunity to shine a light on the dedicated VA employees who work tirelessly to protect and promote the health and well-being of Veterans. If you’re similarly looking for a mission-critical position serving those who served, consider a career at VA.
History of NPHW
The American Public Health Association (APHA) organized the first NPHW in April 1955 to honor the long history and achievements in public health. It also serves to highlight critical issues and root causes of poor health to help people lead healthier and happier lives. APHA identifies themes for each day of the NPHW, so from fitness challenges and discussions to sharing healthy recipes—it’s seven days of committing to health as a country.
